Google Is Working On A Commercial Quantum Computer With 1 Million Qubits

July 4, 2021 by Christina Leave a Comment

Research on quantum computers has been going on for several decades. Phases with many important breakthroughs were repeatedly replaced by periods in which things did not seem to be progressing at all. In the past three years, however, the subject has once again gained considerable momentum. Experts report that more progress was made during this period than in all previous years. In addition, researchers assume that a change of time is imminent.

For the first time, all of the components required to build a powerful quantum computer are actually available. The challenge now is to assemble these individual parts into a functioning system. For this purpose, Google has set up its own research campus in the US state of California. In addition to the classic research facilities, a quantum data center and its own chip production facility are also being built there. The goal: A commercially usable quantum computer is to be built by 2029.

Google wants to massively increase the number of qubits

The schedule doesn’t sound particularly ambitious at first. After all, IBM has according to its own information . The companies are therefore more likely to view their engagement as a kind of research. Because the development of quantum computers actually promises the opposite: Because the arithmetic units called qubits can not only assume the state 0 or 1, but also combine both states, several calculations can be carried out in parallel. In theory, this massively reduces the time required. In practice, however, the quantum computers available to date only have a three-digit number of qubits.

That number is still too small to meet the hopes associated with the technology. already developed a commercial quantum computer . But this is more of a somewhat creative communication. Because the IBM computer is used by some companies. In fact, it is still nowhere near as powerful as conventional supercomputers.

Much More Options: The Esim Is Increasingly Replacing The Plastic Sim

There are still some problems to be solved

Google therefore wants to go a massive step further and install at least one million qubits in the planned commercial quantum computer. However, the sheer mass of computing units alone is not yet decisive. Rather, the challenge for the researchers is to ensure that the qubits remain in the desired quantum state for as long as possible. So far, the devices have been very susceptible to interference in this regard. This in turn can lead to arithmetic operations being carried out incorrectly or even having to be terminated.

Google is therefore working on various approaches to ensure that errors are corrected automatically. The research work required for this is likely to keep the company busy for a few more years. Against this background, the target year 2029 sounds quite ambitious again. At least the company has now announced that it will work with a number of companies and research institutions to develop and test application scenarios at an early stage

Much More Options: The Esim Is Increasingly Replacing The Plastic Sim

July 4, 2021 by Christina Leave a Comment

Apple Watch owners had to deal with the issue of the electronic SIM card relatively early. A few years ago, anyone who wanted to fully use the Apple Watch with the red crown could not avoid activating the virtual SIM card. If telecom customers initially benefited from the new SIM card, the eSIM (embedded SIM) was gradually further integrated into the market. In this article, we want to take a closer look at the possibilities that eSIM reveals and how the SIM card of the future will work.

eSIM- This is how the soldered SIM card works

The eSIM was introduced seven years ago. One of the pioneers here is Apple. At that time, the group had to fight again with a small shit storm. “If it is not bad enough that the batteries in the iPhone and Co are firmly glued, it can now continue with the SIM card”, so the possible tenor. Seven years later, the eSIM is no longer uncommon, especially in smartphones in the upper price categories. Increasingly, use is also expected to shift to the middle class sector. The advantages of the eSIM are obvious. The mere fact that no slot for the SIM card is required not only allows greater device design leeway, but also makes the device less prone to mechanical defects, according to the manufacturers.

Much More Options: The Esim Is Increasingly Replacing The Plastic Sim

When an eSIM-supported device is delivered, the SIM card is already firmly inside as a component. As a result, the data, which can also be found on conventional SIM cards, is simply downloaded over the Internet. That was the big magic. According to the global industry association of mobile communications providers (GSMA), by 2025 just under a third l of the smartphones used around the world should be equipped with an eSIm. Although the providers are helped and mail can be avoided, the support of the eSim is still progressing a bit sluggishly. With a majority of the mobile phone providers and also with smart prepaid card tariffs, the embedded SIM cards can often even be exchanged free of charge or requested in addition. A creeping revolution that is worthwhile. Why? This is shown by a look at the possibilities of the virtual SIM card.

Graphene Layer Enables Hard Disks With A Capacity Of 100 Tbytes

The eSIM can enable many functions in the future

The eSIM not only makes it easier to change devices or mobile network providers, it can also save data, such as electronic ID cards. Since more and more devices are able to establish a connection to the Internet, eSIMs are also useful where the module with the corresponding kit group is not so easy to reach, so changing the SIM card is quite difficult. Larger industrial plants but also household appliances or motor vehicles would be conceivable. The soldered-on SIM card is then much easier to use. With a large number of IoT devices (internet of things), the eSIM is now indispensable. As a result, the classic SIM card has increasingly become obsolete. The electronic driver’s license or token for locking systems are further application scenarios.

Risk of SIM swapping

However, the eSIM technology also has a bitter aftertaste. As with many innovations that can be realized via the Internet, hackers are also on board. A very recent phenomenon is so-called SIM swapping. Here, hackers pretend to be their victims and use previously spied data to commit theft of the mobile phone number. Why steal the cell phone number? Because online banking accounts, shopping profiles and some other sensitive data are often linked to this. The hackers either get the data on the victims via social networks (social engineering), buy it on the DarkNet or use phishing emails. If the required data is available, the customer center of the mobile phone provider is informed that either the mobile phone, including SIM card have been lost or the existing contract is terminated and a new one with phone number portability is to be concluded. In both cases the number would almost be gone.

However, with a normal SIM card, the hackers would first have to wait for the post while the eSIM is activated via the Internet. The post with the conventional SIM can possibly result in an additional trace. How to protect yourself is explained The post with the conventional SIM can possibly result in an additional trace. How to protect yourself is explained The post with the conventional SIM can possibly result in an additional trace. How to protect yourself is explainedthe computer week was pretty good . In this case, the mobile network providers are obliged to close this security gap.

Graphene Layer Enables Hard Disks With A Capacity Of 100 Tbytes

July 4, 2021 by Christina Leave a Comment

The ever advancing digitization and technical development are constantly increasing the demand for storage options. High-resolution videos and first-class animated computer games now require so much space that just a few years ago they would not have fit on a single hard drive. With this in mind, researchers at the University of Cambridge have now made an important discovery. They found that the use of graphs in cooperation with other technologies can increase the storage density tenfold. At least in theory, hard disks with a capacity of more than 100 Tbytes would be possible. Specifically, the researchers first experimented with the coating. This is primarily intended to avoid damage. So far, most manufacturers have relied on a carbon layer here. The Cambridge researchers have now found that graphene can also be used. This in turn has an important advantage.

Graphene Layer Enables Hard Disks With A Capacity Of 100 Tbytes

The thickness of the protective layer can be reduced significantly

Graphene can be applied with a thickness of only one nanometer. In the case of carbon, however, 2.5 to 3 nanometers are required for technical reasons. At first glance, this doesn’t seem like a particularly big difference. In fact, this enables a higher recording density because the write and read head can move closer to the central magnetic disk. How big the advantage actually is depends not least on the storage technology used. According to the researchers, graphs are particularly suitable for energy-based recording techniques.

One example of this is the so-called Heat Assisted Magnetic Recording (HAMR). The magnetic particles are heated to 450 degrees Celsius using a laser. This reduces the required magnetic field strength and thereby also increases the storage density. The combination of graphene layer and HAMR storage process then ensures the significantly increased storage capacity.

The step to series production takes time

Even better values could also be achieved with the help of bit-patterned magnetic recording (BPMR). Here the bits are forced into tiny islands through targeted indentations. This approach could also be combined with graphene coating. The researchers have also built and tested the first hard drives in the laboratory. Based on this, they also published instructions for the required production setup. Potential buyers will still have to be patient. Because the researchers seem to have made an important breakthrough. At the same time, the crucial work is only now beginning. Because the prototypes in the laboratory now have to be turned into a product suitable for series production. Past experience shows that this process is quite time-consuming.

Ios 15 Beta On Iphone: 3 Things You Must Know Before You Install

July 4, 2021 by Christina Leave a Comment

The first public beta of iOS 15 and iPadOS 15 is here. This is the software that will be on millions of iPhones and iPads when Apple releases the final version in the fall. But you don’t have to wait that long to sign up for the iOS 15 beta and install it . Yes, this gives you an early glimpse into new features like Live Text , FaceTime on Android, and new privacy features . But when you’re on the fence, let me give you some advice: wait.

Ios 15 Beta On Iphone 3 Things You Must Know Before You Install

Yes, the installation process only takes a few taps on the screen of your iPhone. And yes, you can revert to iOS 14 anytime , but before jumping on the iOS 15 beta train there are a few important things to know – especially if you “only” have an iPhone or iPad.

This is what makes me pause: Bugs. Bad battery life. Possibly broken apps. You will experience one or more of these factors as the beta program continues. If you are looking to install iOS 15 on your primary Apple device, here are some things you need to know.

What’s New In Whatsapp: A User Can Connect On 4 Devices At The Same Time And There Will Be An Ipad App

Some iOS 15 bugs will be too much to deal with

A beta is so named because it’s not finished yet and there are bound to be problems. For example, the second beta of iOS 14.7 has an issue that results in some iPhones not recognizing the SIM card in the phone. Without a SIM card, your phone can also be an iPod Touch.

Such bugs and issues are sure to show up in iOS 15 and iPadOS 15. And even if they don’t completely stop you from using your iPhone or iPad, the bugs are still annoying and can make the difference between getting the job done and getting the job done, messaging reliably and having a paperweight.

It’s inevitable: some apps won’t work

Whenever Apple makes major changes to the operating system and the underlying APIs that developers use to create new features and services, it usually means that older developer tools are removed or how they work. Even a small change can cause an app to stop working at all.

I tested an iOS beta a few years ago and couldn’t use my bank’s app. It would open and then immediately force quit. Fortunately, the developers were able to release an update that addressed the issue, but that’s not always the case.

And just because all of your apps are working just fine during Beta 1 doesn’t mean Beta 3 won’t break them. If there are apps that you rely on on a daily basis, it’s better to wait until just before the official release before joining the beta.

The battery life almost always suffers

Even if you’re lucky enough not to have apps that won’t run in beta or missed a high profile bug like the iOS 14.7 SIM bug, almost no one is immune from the blow that battery life will take during the iOS beta -Season.

One of the last things Apple does during beta programs is tweaking the apps, features, and services for battery efficiency. Or at least that’s what it feels like. In previous beta programs, I would often look for a charger in the middle of the day, even with minimal usage. The same goes for the first beta of iOS 15. I always had to leave my phone on a charger when I was at my desk to get through the evening. The battery life always suffers.

Fortunately, Apple has released a battery case for its current generation iPhones in the past that has helped, but this year the company hasn’t released anything for the iPhone 12 range.

If you are installing the iOS 15 beta, you should carry a wall adapter and cable with you. You will need it.

My advice? Wait until August when we are usually about a month away from the official release of iOS 15 and iPadOS 15 and issues will be resolved. And that’s usually when you find that the battery life is slowly improving.

If you decide to try out iOS 15, here’s what you need to know about installing it . Participating in the beta is not a permanent decision. You can go back, but it will take some work . Be sure to check out our WWDC Roundup for an easy way to find everything else Apple announced at WWDC 21.

What’s New In Whatsapp: A User Can Connect On 4 Devices At The Same Time And There Will Be An Ipad App

July 2, 2021 by Christina Leave a Comment

As anticipated, WhatsApp is working on a new mode that will offer support to connect up to four devices simultaneously, including the iPad.This was confirmed by the WABetainfo portal , known for sharing the news of the messaging service, after having spoken with the executive director of Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg , and with the executive director of WhatsApp, Will Cathcart , about the news that will soon reach the application .

Multi-device support is a function in which the company has been working for a long time and will allow the account to be used on a computer other than the main mobile, without the need to have an active internet connection on it.

Zuckerberg stressed that it was “a great technological challenge” and that they have already solved it and that they hope to launch it soon. Specific,Cathcart confirmed that the multi-device support will hit a public beta “in a month or two.”

With multi-device support, messages will maintain end-to-end encryption, and users will be able to use the same account on up to four devices, including the iPad.

A User Can Connect On 4 Devices At The Same Time And There Will Be An Ipad App

Another new feature announced is a new mode for temporary messages. Currently it is possible to activate the function that allows setting a time frame so that the messages of a certain chat disappear automatically.

The new mode, if activated, will implement temporary messages in all chats at once, which will make the WhatsApp experience “ephemeral”, as Zuckerberg stressed, since all messages will automatically disappear after seven days.

In relation to the content that disappears, there will also be another function, called “watch once”, which will automatically delete the photos and videos when the receiver has seen them, although the possibility of taking screenshots will be maintained.

The temporary message mode and the “watch once” feature will soon be coming to beta app participants. The company hopes that these developments will make messages “more private and secure.”

The functions of users who have not accepted its new conditions of use will not be limited

A few days ago, the platform confirmed that the functions of users who have not accepted its new conditions of use, which came into effect on May 15, will not be limited .

It is a change of course with respect to the company’s decision until recently when it announced that those who did not accept the conditions would see the service progressively limited.

The company now published that anticipated a few weeks ago by company spokespersons, in its Help Center. In this way, in writing, he made it official that ” the account of any user will not be eliminated or access to WhatsApp functions will be removed on May 15 due to this update “, in which the changes in the conditions of service have been included. .

The new decision assumes that there is no consequence for not accepting the new Conditions and Privacy policy launched in the update available from May 15, at least at this time.

The company assured that ” most of the users who saw the update accepted it “, and indicates that they will continue to show a notification in the application to those users who have not approved the new conditions.
